Stamp Out Hunger draws donations for Food Bank

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank encourages you to contribute to the nation's largest food drive, Stamp Out Hunger.

Many people left a bag of non-perishable food by their mailbox for pick-up Saturday. Letter carriers collected the donated goods.

You can still help out, by donated at the Food Bank off MLK Boulevard. There is greater need for cereal, beans, rice and peanut butter.

Meagan Bratton with the South Plains Food Bank says the demand usually increases this time of year.

"As school wraps up, and kids start going into summer, they start losing access to those free breakfast and lunches that they were getting at school, so the families are going to need a lot of extra help throughout the summer time," Bratton said. "This really helps us to make sure that we're going to have enough boxes to feed those families."

The goal locally is to raise more than 50,000 pounds of food through the Stamp Out Hunger drive.
