Chris Beard, Texas Tech agree to contract extension

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech has agreed to a contract extension with head basketball coach Chris Beard, the athletics department announced Monday. 

His new contract is for six years, through the 2024-25 season. The contract will average $4.575 million annually, making him the third-highest paid coach in the nation behind Kentucky's John Calipari ($9.3 million) and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski ($7.05 million). 

In 2018, Chris Beard signed a six-year contract extension worth $19,050,000 which locked him up through the 2023-24 season

Beard led the basketball program to new heights each of the past two seasons" to the Elite Eight in 2018 where the Red Raiders fell to Villanova and to the National Championship this season where they lost to Virginia in overtime. 

Beard was named Big 12 Coach of the Year and AP Coach of the Year this season.
