South Plains Food Bank campaign helps fight food insecurity

The South Plains Food Bank, Walmart, Sam's Club and Feeding America "Fight Hunger. Spark Change." campaign encourages the community to help combat the food insecurity issue that includes 96,000 people across the South Plains.

"It helps raise funds for food banks to do what we do which is to provide hope and end hunger in America," South Plains Food Bank CEO, David Weaver said.

The goal for the campaign is 300,000 meals. That takes $100,000.

There are three ways to help the South Plains Food Bank and its partners succeed:

1. Buy labeled items online or in store at Walmarts and Sam's Club

2. Donate at the registers

3. Donate at feedingamerica.org/Walmart

"That funding will go into programs that we use to feed children such as the kids cafe and backpack programs," Weaver said.

You can also help fight food insecurity by volunteering at the South Plains Food Bank.

"Come out and pack food, or mark food or do different things and it gives you a chance to see and meet the people that we serve and realize those people are your neighbors," Weaver said.

The campaign runs until May 20.
