LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office announced a death investigation Thursday afternoon after first responders found a woman's body in her home near 63rd and Elgin. Neighbors reported they hadn't seen her for several days and noticed her windows were blacked-out.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.

Fire crews had to force their way into the home to perform a welfare check Wednesday, finding the woman's body and evidence of a fire that had been put out. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined yet.

The medical examiner's office is working to determine a cause of death.
