Covenant helps people register as organ donors

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Covenant provided a sign up booth for those who wanted to become organ donors in honor of National Donate Life Month. There are more than 100 thousand people in the US waiting for transplants, about 11 thousand are Texans.

Cindy Grissman is a nurse manager at Covenant, she says the waiting process is tough.

"You may see that patient several times through getting taken care of and they just keep waiting for that organ to be transplanted," Grissman said.

LifeGift helped donors sign up in the lobby of the medical center, registering them in seconds with an app. Sheena McBride has been a volunteer coordinator for years. She says the reason for the increase in registration is clear.

"Community education, it's all about communication. We do parades, we set up registration booths in hospitals and schools. Pretty much wherever we can get out and spread the word of how important it is to save a life," McBride said.
