Former Sunray police chief, wife to be tried together in NY double murder

A former Panhandle police chief and his wife will be tried together in a double homicide in upstate New York.

FOXrochester.com reports former Sunray police chief Timothy Dean and his wife Charlene Childers will be tried together in Sodus, NY. Investigators say Childers, 25, conspired with Dean, 32, to kill her ex-boyfriend Joshua Niles and his girlfriend Amber Washburn in October.

According to court documents, prosecutors state Childers helped Dean rent a car to drive from Texas to New York to kill Niles.

FOXrochester.com reports Dean faces a count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Childers has been charged with second-degree conspiracy and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Sunray is about 180 miles north of Lubbock.
