Cool this weekend, rain may return late next week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS MORNING: It was a cold start, with 20s across much of the area. Here are some of the coldest readings on the Texas Tech Mesonet:

Friona 20
Muleshoe 20
Floydada 21
Dimmitt 21
South Plains 22
Sundown 22
Tulia 22

It dropped to 26 both at the Lubbock Airport and near the Tech campus. Since then it's been a cool day with lots of sun, high in the upper 40s to low 50s.

TONIGHT: Clear, not quite as cold. Low near 29, wind SE/S 5-10mph.

SATURDAY: Another cool day with some high clouds. Clouds will be thicker to the southwest of Lubbock. There may even be a few light showers southwest of the city...better chance in New Mexico.

SUNDAY: Sunny, high 59. Wind W/SW 5-12mph.

NEXT WEEK: We shouldn't climb to the average of 67 to 68. There will be a few more clouds late Monday into Tuesday, but that disturbance looks so weak that it won't bring rain. The rain chance will go up to about 20% Thursday and Friday. There may even be a few thunderstorms. The great news is the wind will stay light this weekend and through early next week. It'll climb back to a more typical range for March, somewhat gusty, by late next week.

7-day forecast

Have a great weekend. Robert will have your updated forecast here Saturday afternoon.
