LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team are heading to Orlando, Florida to take on the Golden Knights of UCF on Thursday, March 14th.
Tech will aim to improve their true road record to 3-2 on the year with a win on Thursday.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Red Raiders are coming off of a win against No. 45 Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday.
Tech began their match with the Wildcats by securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. In singles play, the Red Raiders turned to their experienced leaders on courts one and two, as Tommy Mylnikov and Parker Wynn both captured wins in straight sets to give Tech the 3-0 match advantage. After a pair of wins for the Wildcats, Tech would secure the match with a victory by freshman Franco Ribero, who seized his win in a second-set tiebreaker.
RED RAIDERS IN THE RANKINGS:
Tech held steady in the weekly Oracle/ITA rankings at the No. 32 slot.
Wynn and Thomson also maintained their spot at No. 6 in the doubles rankings, while Wynn stayed put at No. 108 in singles.
The Red Raiders will look to improve to 4-2 on the year against ranked foes, as the Golden Knights enter Thursday's matchup as the No. 33 ranked team in the nation.
Head coach Brett Masi's emphasis on starting early in doubles play has proved to be an essential element to the Red Raiders' game plan, as Tech has now won six of its last eight doubles points.
Matheus Leite and Ilgiz Valiev, who were recently paired together in doubles play, are 4-0 in doubles play. All four of their wins have come on court three.
Wynn continues to deliver in singles play for the Red Raiders, as he is 11-3 on the year and has won his last four matches. He is also 8-1 in his last 10 matches.
The Red Raiders will travel to Orlando to take on Central Florida on Thursday, March 14thbefore heading to Houston to participate in the Rice Invitational, beginning March 22nd.
