LUBBOCK, Texas -

The "Red Tail" now greets visitors to the Museum of Texas Tech. Dedicated Friday, the 20-foot tall sculpture represents a hawk. It's made of steel and fused glass.

This is the newest piece at the Museum as part of the Public Art program. Artist Peter Mangan of Blanco, Texas crafted it. He said his art primarily uses steel and glass.

"It's a 10-foot wide soaring red-tail hawk which will now be set in the front of the Museum as the approach to our main northern entry," said Museum Executive Director Gary Morgan.

A new interpretive landscape featuring native plants and glasses was unveiled. It's called The Arroyo. Morgan says it captures the charismatic aspects of the West Texas environment.
