ANDREWS COUNTY, Texas -

Andrews County Sheriff's Office:

On March 7, at about 10:26 a.m., the Andrews County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible shooting at Knight’s Tire located at 1050 E. Broadway.

The caller advised that the suspect had fled the area in a maroon Chevrolet Cruze. Sheriff’s Deputies, Andrews Police Department Officers and Andrews EMS responded to the location.

Upon arrival, they found that Diego Mendoza had apparently been shot in the back. He told officers that the suspect had purchased some tires and rims from his tire shop and had come to pick them up. An argument ensued, resulting in the gunshot wound to Mendoza. He was transported to Permian Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was later transferred by ambulance to Odessa Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

While responding to the scene, an Andrews County Sheriff’s Deputy located the suspect vehicle and stopped him in the 100 block of West Broadway. The suspect, later identified as Donuvon Fitzgerald, 30, was arrested without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

He is being held in the Andrews County Jail.
