Appeals Court dismisses former police officer's suit

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo has dismissed a former Lubbock police officer's suit against the chief, department and the city.

The court found Chris Hennsley did not file his brief on time.

Hennsley filed the suit in 2017, claiming Chief Greg Stevens was retaliating against Hennsley for reporting misconduct by the chief. In his original suit, Hennsley claimed he learned about allegations of sexual misconduct by Stevens in 2016.

He claimed, because of this, his wife, who was also a city employee, was fired.

A Lubbock district court threw out the lawsuit last year. Hennsley appealed, then failed to submit his court records by the January 30 deadline.
