AUSTIN, Texas -

State lawmakers welcomed city leaders for Lubbock Day at the State Capitol.

A reception Tuesday night welcomed city council and Chamber of Commerce representatives to Austin.

Lawmakers from our area say it's a reminder the people back home are watching.

"This is an opportunity for many people from West Texas to come to their capitol to talk to us about issues that are important to them," Lubbock State Representative Dustin Burrows said. "And to let legislators that, maybe aren't actually from the South Plains, hear their voices and what Lubbock needs as a community and what the South Plains needs in total."

The delegation will be recognized in both the House and Senate Wednesday.

The House's Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Burrows, will also hear the city council's positions on property tax reform.
