Senate passes $867 billion Farm Bill; must now be approved by House

The U.S. Senate has passed the reformed 2018 Farm Bill by a vast majority.

This follows a conference committee's report on the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, a compromise between House and Senate lawmakers.

This $867 billion legislative package has been caught up in tense negotiations, over adding work requirements to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

This proposal does not include those requirements, but re-authorizes conservation programs and crop insurance, including seed cotton. It also legalizes the industrial production of hemp for any use, including cannabidiol or CBD oil produciton.

A House vote is set for this week, as early as Wednesday, then on to the President's desk.
