More chilly days ahead, chance for snow next week

LUBBOCK, Texas -

CHILLY WEATHER: The clouds have again kept the temperature in the 40s this afternoon. We've had a little bit of drizzle through the day as well.

TONIGHT: NE wind will kick up 15-20mph, reinforcing the cold air. Low near 33. Some more drizzle is possible. Northwest of Lubbock there could be some flurries.

TOMORROW: Clouds early with a little bit of sun during the afternoon. High 49, wind NE/E 5-15mph.

For high school football games, 6:30p temp near 45, dropping to near 40 by the end of the games. Wind E 5-10mph.

WEEKEND: The S/SW breeze will kick up Saturday, but it won't push the temp up much. High near 52. There are now some signs clouds will hang around through the day, but for now we're forecasting a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky.

It'll be cold for the Texas Tech game. Kickoff near 46, wind S 12-18mph. The wind will drop off some through the game. End of the game temp in the lower 40s, wind chill in the 30s.

Sunday's temperature forecast is tricky because we're not sure when the next strong front will move through. For now we expect mid 50s with the temperature dropping fast by late afternoon. It'll also get breezy to windy with that front.

SNOW CHANCE: A storm system passing across the region brings the chance for precipitation late Sunday night into Monday. It should turn cold enough for this to be a rain-snow mix or snow. Monday's high will only be in the 30s.

We're still a few days out; things will change in the guidance. But it does appear snow is possible for parts of our area Monday morning. Be sure to check back as the forecast gets more specific. The modeling will improve as we get closer.

NEXT WEEK: It'll clear out by Monday night, setting up a hard freeze area-wide Tuesday morning. It'll be sunny but chilly through mid-week.

7-day forecast

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early tomorrow.
