LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press Release)

The Caprock Foundation will present a check for more than $10,000 to the Farm, Orchard and GRUB division of the South Plains Food Bank on Friday, November 9th at 10 a.m. at the SPFB Farm to purchase an RTV that will help increase mobility across the 5.5 acres of land.

The RTV will relieve the staff, students and volunteers from hauling pounds of heavy produce, soil and compost across multiple acres of land, which will in turn, allow for more time in the classroom educating our volunteers and GRUB students.

David Weaver, CEO of the SPFB, says this donation is coming at a dire time for the Farm. A few weeks ago, the Farm was targeted by thieves.

“Recently, a break-in at the Farm resulted in a tremendous loss in equipment and materials,” Weaver said. “This donation isn’t just a piece of machinery, it’s a glimmer of hope for our staff and students who dedicate all of their time to this farm.”

Part of the SPFB’s mission is to give hope to those who need it most. Jenifer Smith, Director of the F.O.G. programs, says it’s humbling to see the community helping to provide that same hope her staff and students strive to give every day.

“These kids are my family,” Smith said. “Seeing how crushed they were when they saw the remains of the vandalism broke my heart but getting to tell them about this donation…I saw their eyes brighten up. Things really do come full-circle.”
