Commissioner-elect Corley will start with cutting own salary

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Republican Jason Corley defeated Democrat Nick Harpster and Libertarian Ysabel Luna for Lubbock County commissioner precinct 2.

Corley has promised to slash his salary first thing when he takes office in January.

"At first I'll start with my own salary, which any commissioner can do, any elected official actually can," Corley said. "And then I want to work towards appointing an advisory committee, that would advise the county commissioners on what their pay rate should be."

Corley says he also wants to focus on fixing dirt roads throughout precinct 2. He says there are too many people in the rural county who can't go to and from their home at times.

Jason Corley (R) 13,543 65.67%
Nick Harpster (D) 6,288 30.49%
Ysabel Luna (L) 792 3.84%
