LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech breaks six enrollment records this semester.

According to enrollment numbers released by Tech, more than 38,000 students are in classes, up 3.3 percent from last year. The freshman numbers are also up 4.9 percent to 6,173 six thousand. Included in that class, 26 national merit finalist, up from 16 last year.

President Lawrence Schovanec attributes the growth to the Texas Tech brand and the countless hours recruiting students to Lubbock.

"I think we're getting close to our freshman capacity. Where we do want to focus on the graduate enrollment. It was up ever so slightly this year. Still not what it was two years ago so that is a concern and we'll be putting a lot of effort into that in the coming year," Schovanec said.

This is the tenth consecutive fall semester of growth for Tech.
