LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Fire Rescue joins the Amarillo Fire Department for live fire training near the Lubbock airport.

These joint training exercises will allow both departments to obtain the necessary live fire burns that are required by the Federal Aviation Administration. This combined ARFF training will allow both departments to work together to increase their knowledge and improve their firefighting capabilities.

"Their airport crews and our airport crews get together and just doing live burns. You know going over different ways and tactics to where you can put it out and stuff like that," Captain Kevin Ivy, said. "You know there's probably eight, maybe 10 thousand different ways you can put out a fire and it's a good thing to every once in a while get together and come together and put our heads together and figure out what works best."

Training will continue through Friday and again through all next week.

Ivy urges not to call 9-1-1 if you see the black smoke at the airport.
