Lea County deputies arrest man driving while intoxicated, crashed into house

LEA COUNTY, New Mexico -

On Tuesday, September 11, Lea County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Gum Street, Lovington, NM in reference to a vehicle that crashed into a guest house and several fences.

A responding Deputy observed a black Ford pickup with severe damage to the front. Deputies contacted the driver, identified as Joseph R. Porras, 19, of Lovington, NM. A Deputy smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from Porras. As the Deputy attempted to detain Porras, he attempted to pull away, resist and flee on foot from the Deputy.

The damage to property was reported to be over $77,000. Porras was treated and released from Nor-Lea General Hospital. He was transported to the Lea County Detention Center and booked on charges of criminal damage to property, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
