Lubbock-Cooper ISD changes dynamics of learning with new school

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock-Cooper ISD is changing the dynamics of teaching and learning implementing a modern style at its newest campus, East Elementary. Superintendent Keith Bryant said the district is embracing the growth.

"We are so very excited to open this school and see what it brings," said Bryant. "What opportunities kids have to expand their learning in ways they've never had the opportunity to do so."

In 2016 taxpayers supported a bond initiative, the first project on the list was this elementary school. The school district broke ground in January 2017. Bryant said every inch of the campus was built with intent and purpose.

"Teachers wanted a place where they could take kids and do multiple modes of learning with them they can do visual learning,  they can do hands on they can do auditory, they can do exploration," said Bryant. "So everything was intentional from the furniture we have in the rooms to the design of the closets to the design of the doorways everything was designed with intention."

This two story building has several multipurpose spaces, it features a discovery center, a space similar to an i-max theater. Bryant said the school's library will be a place where students can learn and have fun all at the same time with a slide and a social stair set up.

Lubbock Cooper ISD redrew its attendance boundaries last year and will have 350 students enrolled on this campus, beginning next week. The school is expected to be complete and ready to go for the first day of class.
