Littlefield Police say a man with a license to carry a concealed handgun stopped an armed carjacking Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a call on West Fourth Street near Laguna Park. The caller said a man armed with a knife was assaulting a woman on her property and trying to take her car.

Investigators say Ruben Garcia Lopez, 25, confronted the woman and her boyfriend, claiming it was his car. The woman was trying to get her children out of the vehicle.

A neighbor arrived home, saw the attack and came to the rescue. Police say he pointed his handgun at the attacker and walked him across the street. A police officer arrived, the suspect dropped the knife then attacked the officer. The officer then subdued the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Garcia Lopez was checked out at the hospital then taken to the Lamb County Jail.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault causing bodily injury, terroristic threat and resisting arrest.
