LUBBOCK, Texas -

Update: 9:50 p.m. June 14

Judge Trey McClendon sentenced Marmolejo to 15 years in state prison on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Marmolejo pleaded guilty to beating Solidad Torres in June of last year for downloading and using Snapchat. He punched and stomped on her then slammed her head into a bathtub repeatedly.

"When we made eye contact," Torres said after the trial, "it was just... that motivation -- like I said in my speech -- just I know what he did, and so does she... He knows what he did to both of us, and so that's what he deserves."

Throughout the sentencing phase prosecutors used ex-girlfriends to paint Marmolejo as a serial abuser.

"It's hard, but we did dig our way out of it," ex-girlfriend Josie Martinez said. "We both came out of it a little bit different, but we're better now and we're getting even better... so don't worry."

Marmolejo must serve at least half of his sentence before he's eligible for parole. Since Judge McClendon found it a domestic violence crime, any future family violence crimes Marmolejo may commit would be immediately considered a felony.

"Our hope is that it sends a message to the community," assistant district attorney Cara Landers said, "both to offenders that this is not behavior that will be tolerated in Lubbock County -- and also to victims that we want to fight for you and taht we want you to come forward and allow us to do that."

The sentencing phase resumed into day two for the man that beat his girlfriend for downloading a social media app last year.

Dameon Marmolejo, 21, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for attacking the victim over downloading Snapchat back in June 2017. The victim Solidad Torres told police he kicked and punched her, then dragged her by the head and slammed it into a bathtub several times. After the attack, he called 911 then threw the phone at the victim and left.

During Marmolejo's sentencing hearing, Torres's mother told the judge she saw blood everywhere when she found her daughter. She said she had to help her daughter take a bath because Torres couldn't do it on her own.

An ex-girlfriend of Marmolejo's told the judge she broke up with the defendant because their relationship was the same way.

The hearing continues Wednesday morning.
