A 9-year-old Roscoe boy is currently in serious condition at Covenant Children's after an accidental shooting Saturday night.

According to the Fisher County Sheriff, a man shot and killed a snake, then while reloading his 9mm gun, he accidentally shot Keegan Covington and punctured both his lungs with one bullet.

Keegan coded while being transported by helicopter to Lubbock.

According to a Facebook post from Monday morning, Keegan is being "heavily sedated until further notice." It is unknown how long he will be in the hospital.

The child remains in serious condition, and family and friends ask for prayers.

The Covington family has released a statement regarding their son:

“We would like to thank the community for their support and encouragement. At this time and ask everyone for their continued thoughts and prayers for our sweet boy. We ask for and appreciate the privacy while Keegan recovers.”

They've set up a GoFundMe account, as well as a Facebook Page to notify others about opportunities to assist with the cost of his medical care. "Keegan Strong" shirts are also available for purchase.
