DPS investigating US 380 fatal crash

YOAKUM COUNTY, Texas -

UPDATE:

The investigation revealed a Chevy pickup traveling east on US 380 lost control of the vehicle due to the left front wheel coming off. The driver was unable to control the pickup, forcing it into oncoming traffic. 

The driver Cornelia Krahn Schmid, 39, of Seminole was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The Dodge Ram pickup traveling west on US 380 was driven by David Harder, 33, of Brownfield. Harder was not injured but his five-year-old son was taken to Brownfield Medical Center with serious injuries.

Texas Department of Public Safety worked a fatal on US 380 one mile  west FM 1780 around 8:40 a.m. in Yoakum county east of Plains.  One vehicle traveling west bound and another vehicle traveling east bound collided head on.  Preliminary investigation indicates the east bound vehicle veered into on coming traffic.  Both vehicles were pulling farm trailers.
