LEVELLAND, Texas -

UPDATE 4/12 2pm

According to the Hockley County District Attorney, both Matthew Cruz and Canyon Faull's charges have been upgraded to murder. They were previously arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim, Matthew Sanchez, died at the hospital after police say he was shot.

Cruz and Faull are now held on bonds totaling $505,000 each.


UPDATE 4/9 5pm

Levelland Chief of Police Albert Garcia confirmed to FOX34 that the victim, Matthew Sanchez, died at the hospital.

The charges for Cruz and Faull will likely be upgraded. 

Garcia also said the Texas Rangers are now assisting in this investigation.


Police said two men are arrested in connection with shooting their roommate in Levelland Sunday evening.

Police respond to a shots fired call near Hickory St and College Ave. They found Matthew Sanchez, 27, laying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Covenant Hospital Levelland where he had surgery.

Police arrested Matthew Paul Cruz, 20, and Canyon Brent Faull, 19. The pair is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Cruz is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Faull is also charged with tampering/fabricating physical evidence. They're both held on a $255,000 bond each in the Hockley County Jail.

Police said there was a shotgun recovered from the house.
