Local schools hold fundraisers to support fight against cancer

Schools in the Coronado High School feeder pattern are participating in Relay Recess, an event targeting cancer-related issues.

Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, fifth graders focus on topics like healthy eating, sun safety and avoiding tobacco.

Ann Archer, principal of Overton Elementary School, says local schools are committed to ending cancer.

"Each of these elementary schools are having fundraisers to support the fight against cancer and today was kind of a culminating event," she said. "Like I said, adding that education component to it then also letting them just have a great time."

Kids also made luminary bags to remember those lost to cancer.
