Sen. Bernie Sanders to speak in Lubbock Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will visit Lubbock Saturday afternoon.

The big hit of his Texas tour is South by Southwest where he'll speak directly to his target demographic, young voters.

He specifically highlights issues close to young voters' hearts, like gun control and protections for undocumented immigrants.

Sanders says those issues aren't on the floor of the Senate because of dark money in politics.

"Last year alone, financial institutions spent $200 million in lobbying the Congress, and over the period of 25 years, spent billions of dollars in campaign contributions," he said.

The senator, not afraid to advocate for Second Amendment restrictions in Texas.

He says modern sporting rifles like the A-R 15 should be banned and says there is more than enough mainstream support now to get it done.

He will be at the Civic Center tomorrow from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The event is free and doors will open at noon.
