Community Foundation of West Texas raises thousands for local charities

Posted: Updated:

The Community Foundation of West Texas raised nearly $188,000 for the arts and animals.

The organization is funding grants to 14 arts and 9 animal organizations throughout Lubbock and Hale counties.

The Sybil B. Harrington Endowment is providing opportunities of growth in the arts community, including childrens' art projects.

"We do this particular grant cycle every year and so we have funds to give away for the arts and the animals," Community Foundation President Stephen Warren said. "One of the funds started with $3 million, it has grown to $3.7 in 11 years and we've given away $1.2 million and that will happen every year forever."

The donations will help lost, injured or abandoned animals, often getting them back to a healthy weight.
