HOUSTON – No. 8/6 Texas Tech Women’s Tennis captured its third win over a ranked opponent with a 4-0 sweep at No. 50 Rice on Saturday afternoon.
Rice captured the first doubles win of the day with a 6-3 win on court three. Doubles pair Felicity Maltby and Gabriela Talaba tied it up with their 6-4 victory on court two.
No. 2 Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici tied it up 6-6 and forced a tiebreaker set. The two were down 5-2 in the tiebreaks before battling back to a 10-8 win to clinch the doubles point for the Lady Raiders. The win over No. 16 Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang was the second ranked win of the season and the highest ranked win for the duo.
Alex Valenstein took a quick 6-0, 6-4 win on court five to push the Lady Raiders ahead 2-0. No. 7 Gabriela Talaba earned her fifth win of the season with a straight set win over Lindsey Hodge on court one, giving the Lady Raiders a 3-0 advantage.
Sabrina Federici improved to 8-1 on the season with her 6-1, 7-6(7-3) victory over Rice’s Michaela Haet on court three, clinching the match for the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders travel to California for two matches during Spring Break. Texas Tech is set to face Fresno State on Saturday, March 10, at 2 p.m. Then, the Lady Raiders will take on Cal on Tuesday, March 13, at 1 p.m.
