All Saints basketball wins TAPPS state championship

The third time is a charm proved true for All Saints Varsity Boys Basketball team as they won the TAPPS 2A State Championship today (March 2) after playing for the state title for the last three consecutive seasons.

The Patriots (30-6) defeated Conroe Covenant (24-8) 62-41 in an 11 a.m. game at West High School in West. All Saints was led by the senior duo of Austin Hickle and Luke Stuart with 27 and 21 points respectively. Austin Manthey led Conroe Covenant Christian with 12 points. All Saints finishes the season 30-6. The championship victory was the 115th win for the senior class.

Seniors Austin Hickle and Luke Stuart were named to the All State All Tournament Team along with junior Myles Tipton.

The Patriots defeated Sherman Texoma Christian 77-62 yesterday (March 1) in the State Semifinals. At the Regional playoff game on February 20, All Saints defeated Greenville Christian 91-56.

All Saints is in their fifth year to offer boys basketball in the school’s short six-year history. They have earned a spot at the state championships for the last three consecutive seasons and qualified for Regionals the last four years after winning four consecutive district and area titles. Each year they have received a bye through the bi-district round because they were undefeated in their district seasons. They were a state semi-finalist two years ago and lost a hard-fought championship game last year against two/time defending champions Austin Waldorf.

The team is coached by Robert Brashear with assistance from David Chapman and Skyler Smith. The team consists of seniors Joseph Bayouth, Colten Cannon, Austin Hickle, Tyler Logan, and Luke Stuart; juniors Cole Beasley, Benton St. Clair, Bracy Estes, Conrad Small, Ret Taylor, and Myles Tipton; sophomore Jackson Janes; and freshmen Ash Bumstead and Luke Maples.
