Antibiotics may cause weight gain

Posted: Updated:

Antibiotics may help you get better but also add to your waistline. Researchers at the Penn Center say taking too many antibiotics for long periods of time disrupts good bacteria living in your body. That can create an unhealthy state, affecting metabolism. This issue can then lead to weight gain.

Scientists advise people not to take antibiotics if they don't need them. If you do need to kill bacteria, make sure your physician has provided a specific length of time for taking the medication.
