Veteran announces bid for Lubbock mayor as write-in candidate

Posted: Updated:

There is now a write-in candidate for Lubbock mayor.

Stephen Sanders, a Lubbock native and veteran, announces his bid.

He proclaims himself the "progressive" candidate. Sanders' initiatives include generating more housing for the homeless and economic opportunities across all sectors of the city.

"I'm really concerned about our economics in the city, businesses are packing up and leaving and we need people to stay here, nestle down and hang in there with us and we're going to bring more people here so can generate more money, he said."

Incumbent Mayor Dan Pope and challenger Jonathan Cothran will have their names on the ballot in the May election.
