Salvation Army working to help homeless people 'Survive the Night'

Posted: Updated:

Salvation Army staffers and volunteers are working to help homeless people "survive the night."

With this sudden drop in temperatures, the Army's sending out the canteen to provide blankets, socks, gloves, and hats.

The intention is not just to survive, but to bring those living on the streets back to the shelter.

"We've had one or two that said 'nah, I don't need anything' and the next morning they were frozen in their little place wherever they were," Disaster Relief Coordinator Dave Freriks said. "So we're hoping to keep 'em off the street."

The Salvation Army always accepts blankets, clothes, and monetary donations.
