Due to record-breaking flu season, UMC asking visitors to leave kids at home

UMC is urging parents to keep young children under the age of twelve away from hospitalized patients.

The reason -- the flu -- one of the worst seasons we've seen in 15 to 20 years.

December broke records, so nurses are urging parents to keep children, who are more susceptible to the virus, away from patients getting treated for it.

"Typically, the way we see flu spread is from children to adults, even if the child isn't showing symptoms yet," spokesperson Eric Finley said. "So we have a lot of patients here at the hospital, especially older patients who are very vulnerable to any kind of infection, any kind of virus right now."

Wash your hands about 20 seconds thoroughly with soap and water. Sneeze into your elbows.

You've heard it all before, but patients are still succumbing to the potentially deadly disease.
