Official exhibit of the U.S. World War I Centennial now open
CHICAGO, Jan. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pritzker Military Museum & Library's new original exhibit, Lest We Forget: Sailors, Sammies and Doughboys Over There in WWI, explores the experiences of those who served in World War I and the role the United States played in ending the first truly global conflict. The exhibit features photographs, maps, posters, rare books, artifacts and video footage from the era and a robust audio tour. It is an official exhibit of the United States World War I Centennial.
The Lest We Forget exhibition draws upon the Museum & Library's large collection of World War I items such as trench art, letters and propaganda posters. In addition, images from the National Archives, the American Battle Monuments Commission and items from the World War I battleship USS Olympia and the Illinois State Military Museum are featured. The Museum & Library is the founding sponsor of the United States World War One Centennial Commission and works with the commission to develop programs and materials commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Great War.
"More than 116,000 men and women from the United States lost their lives during World War I and this exhibit will help encourage today's Americans to commemorate their service," Terry Hamby, Chair, World War One Centennial Commission.
