The Lubbock-Cooper girls basketball team went a perfect 4-0 in the 59th annual Caprock Classic to win the tournament for the first time in school history. In the Championship game of the girls large school bracket, the Lady Pirates knocked off the previously unbeaten Levelland Loboettes 43-41 in overtime at LCU's Rip Griffin Center. Levelland came into the game on a 21 game win streak and ranked 2nd in the state in 4A girls basketball. Senior Jacey Hise led the Lady Pirates (20-2) with 16 points and hit two free throws with 7 seconds left in the overtime period. Prior to the Levelland win, LCP defeated El Paso Eastlake 86-47 on Thursday night, and then beat San Angelo Central 61-40 and Idalou 38-36 on Friday.
Lubbock-Cooper will play one last non-district game at Snyder on January 2nd at 6 p.m. before district play begins. The next radio broadcast will be on January 5th when the Lady Pirates host Lubbock High to start district 4-5A at 6:00.
