Even colder Sunday with mixed precipitation possible

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Today was colder with the front moving through the area with an overcast sky. Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 12PM Sunday.

TONIGHT: Low 20, mostly cloudy. Freezing drizzle & fog increasing this evening and continuing Sunday. This light precipitation with the cold temperatures will leave a chance for slick spots on the overpasses and road. Drive carefully as visibility will likely be reduced to ½ mile or less at times.

NEW YEARS EVE: High near 23. Another stronger front will push into the area in the early morning hours. This will bring a chance for some light mixed precipitation, likely a dusting of snow with freezing drizzle. This will continue into the early afternoon hours, then clearing up with dry air. The front will also bring a breezy Northeast wind 10-20mph, with the cold temperatures it will feel like single digits or colder.

NEXT WEEK: A long stretch of extremely cold temperatures start of the 2018 year. Wind chills will continue to be around the zero to negative degree range on Monday. Some clouds will stick around for a partly cloudy afternoon, becoming mostly sunny by Tuesday. Temperatures will remain below freezing until Wednesday afternoon. Gradually warming up to the 50s by Friday.
