The current Featured Artist on Good Day Lubbock is photographer David Sanderson, who specializes in what is known as "Light Painting."
From the Artist:
When light painting, I set the camera, and my wife fires off the shutter with a two second delay on the shutter to get her hands off the camera on the tripod. Then for the set number of seconds, I shine the light in the manner I want. There is a very limited number of shots available before the spotlight battery is spent, and you are done until a recharge can be accomplished.
So, take it in, let it soak and look at the "Praying Hands" of Delicate Arch. It would appear even the rocks cry out.
Delicate Arch is located in Arches National Park near Moab UT, and is the signature image of the park. The State of Utah has it on their car tags.
The arch is composed of a single Navajo Sandstone fin perched on a Navajo Sandstone "slickrock" bowl that is 109 feet deep, and the opening of the arch is 47 feet. The hike is 3 miles round-trip, and is about 650 feet elevation gain from the parking area over "slickrock" at 12 percent grades and no shade. Spring and Fall are the most temperate times to visit.
Taken with the Canon 60D and Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens at 5.6 for 30 seconds at ISO 200 at 15mm and post processed in Lightroom.
Canyonlands Natural Historical Association, the fundraising arm of Arches National Park, has this photo 20x30 on canvas in their offices.
