Bexar County Sheriff: boy's death a tragic accident

Posted: Updated:

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says the death of a six-year-old boy, killed by gunfire during a confrontation with a suspect, is a tragic accident.

Deputies fired on a felon who they thought was armed with a gun outside the boy's trailer Thursday. The sheriff says Amanda Lenee Jones threatened to attack them. Ends up she was only holding a pipe.

Salazar says it appears the deputies followed correct policy and procedures when it comes to use of lethal force.

"You know, what we're dealing with at this point, what it appears, and of course I don't have final say on this, the ME's got some things to say about it and so does the DA, they'll make the final ruling on a lot of these things," Sheriff Salazar said.

Investigators say she did have a gun at some point during a chase. They still haven't found the weapon.
