Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates (14-1)

Frenship Tigers (13-3)

Lady Pirates: Lubbock-Cooper is coming into the game as one of the hottest teams in the area winning 14 straight games. LCP is 14-1 on the year with the lone loss coming in the first game of the season on the road versus Idalou in overtime. Since then in tournament play, the Lady Pirates won two impressive games in the Canyon Shootout and then won six games in Kennedale as they went on to claim the Kennedale tournament championship, winning the title 2 out of the last 3 seasons. Most recently the Lady Pirates avenged last year’s first round playoff exit to Canyon Randall, defeating the Lady Raiders 71-70 in Canyon. In the win Eavahna Romero scored 20 points to lead Lubbock-Cooper, Romero is up for the Lonestar Varsity Athlete of the Week (Go vote for her). The Lady Pirates lost last year’s contest to the Frenship Tigers 60-52 in Wolfforth. This year’s game will only be the second-time former head coach Trent Hilliard will be coaching at the Lubbock-Cooper gym in a non-scrimmage regular season game. Trent Hilliard coached the Lady Pirates for nine seasons before leaving for Frenship to become head girls’ basketball coach/girl’s athletic coordinator.

Tigers (Girls): Frenship comes into this game with an impressive start to their season and a 7-game win streak as well. The Tigers are 13-3 on the year and most recently defeated Midland Greenwood 63-41 on the road. In tournament play, Frenship took second place in their own tournament losing to Amarillo High in the Championship and won the Burleson Tournament in back to back years. A key injury to the team has the Tigers playing several newcomers in the early part of the season. Current Frenship coach Trent Hilliard spent nine seasons at Lubbock-Cooper leaving after the 2013-2014 season with 214 wins and 99 losses at LCP.

Frenship Tigers (7-7)

Pirates: Lubbock-Cooper has played in two tournaments the last two weekends and finally return home for the first time since November 21st. In the first tournament, the Pirates went 2-2 in Sanger for the North Texas Basketball Invitational beating Sanger and Denton Braswell while falling to Aubrey and Fort Worth Boswell. The next weekend, Lubbock-Cooper traveled to Decatur, Texas to play in that tournament. The only score posted was a 60-58 loss to Cleburne in the opening game of the tournament. Lubbock-Cooper’s record is shown as 5-4 with two or three other games not reported. The Pirates fell to the Tigers last season by the score of 58-40.

Tigers (Boys): The Frenship Tigers have had an up and down season so far coming into the game versus Lubbock-Cooper with a 7-7 record. Head coach Paul Page leads the Tigers in his fourth season coming off a season where the Tigers went two rounds deep into the playoffs. In tournament play the Tigers won 3 of 4 in the Gene Messer Shootout which Frenship hosted and then went 2-2 in the more recent Keller tournament beating teams like John Paul II and Irving while the losses came to McKinney and Keller Fossil Ridge. In between the two tournaments the Tigers fell to Seminole on December 5th 65-61.
