LUBBOCK, Texas (December 4, 2017) – Lubbock Christian University volleyball head coach Jennifer Lawrence has announced she has received five signatures of individuals future Lady Chaparrals student-athletes during the fall National Signing Period. Signings included Bradi Marshall (Lubbock Trinity Christian), Bailey Pearce (Artesia (N.M.)), Morgan Schwarz (Kansas City Kansas Community College), Jalee Sims (Bushland) and Klaire Torrez (Hendrickson).
Marshall was part of three TAPPS state title winning teams (2015, 2016, 2017) at Trinity Christian High School in Lubbock. The three-time TAPPS All-State selection claimed District MVP honors as a senior and also claimed her third All-Tournament Team honor at the TAPPS State Tournament. Marshall, a 2015 4A TAPPS Setter of the Year recipient, received multiple NCSAA All-Region and the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's Super Team honors. She played amateur volleyball with TAV Amarillo.
Pearce is completing her senior year at Artesia High School in Artesia, N.M. The outside hitter received First Team All-District and competed in the New Mexico High School Coaches Association All-Star Game this season, which was her first season in Artesia. She previously played at Crane High School and was a two-time District Offensive MVP. Pearce played club volleyball in Midland.
Schwarz is the only signee transferring to LCU, coming to LCU from Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Burleson, Texas native played right side and middle blocker for KCKCC. She ranked third on the squad in blocks (77) and also provided 125 kills in 27 matches as a sophomore. Her freshman season, she produced 31 kills and 30 blocks in 13 matches. At Burleson High School, she was a three-time All-District selection and claimed Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 5A Academic All-State honors in 2015.
Sims is a two-sport star at Bushland High School in Bushland, Texas, excelling in volleyball and basketball. Her senior season, she claimed District Setter of the Year honors and made the Regional All-Tournament Team for Bushland, who fell in the Regional Championship Game and was unable to defend their 2016 UIL State Title. She claimed All-State honors in 2016 and UIL All-State Tournament Team accolades. The Amarillo Globe News Super Team selection was a three-time All-District selection in volleyball and a two-time All-District selection in basketball (claimed Defensive MVP honors in basketball last season). She was a 2016 All-Region Team member, chosen by the TABC as a junior.
Torrez will join the Lady Chaps roster from Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas. She is a two-time All-District selection and claimed the team's Defensive MVP honor as a senior. The Libero played club volleyball for 17 Asics (Austin Performance Volleyball) and Austin Skyline Jrs and was named an AVCA #PhenomList member.
The Lady Chaps completed the 2017 season qualifying for the Heartland Conference Tournament. They went 10-17, finishing 7-5 in conference play.
