59th annual Carol of Lights ceremony Friday

59th annual Carol of Lights ceremony Friday

Posted: Updated:

Each December, Texas Tech University glows with more than 25,000 colored lights during the Carol of Lights® ceremony. Thousands of Red Raiders will gather at 6:30 p.m. Friday (Dec. 1) at Memorial Circle, the Engineering Key, the Science Quad and the Broadway Entrance to Texas Tech to honor 59 years of tradition.

Members of the Texas Tech Residence Hall Association dedicate hours of hard work to bring life to the event. Numerous student organizations lend a helping hand to bring the ceremony together. The passion of these Red Raiders fuels a tradition for Texas Tech and the Lubbock community year after year.

“We are looking forward to a fantastic event this year,” said Sean Duggan, managing director of University Student Housing. “There will be great weather to kick off the holiday season, while also celebrating Texas Tech University. I think this 59th celebration will be a memorable experience for the community and visitors.”

Not only do the buildings of the university shine during Carol of Lights®, but the 38-foot-tall Christmas tree standing proudly behind the Texas Tech Seal also will come to life. The Carillon Concert opens the festivities with holiday music celebrating the theme “Miracle on Memorial Circle.”

At 7 p.m. the Masked RiderRaider RedSaddle Tramps and High Riders will lead the Torch Light processional. The processional will follow the luminaria-guided route from the Broadway Entrance, around Memorial Circle and to the Engineering Key. The Trombone Choir will accompany the University Choirs during the ceremony.

The ceremony will be broadcast on 88.1 KTXT-FM The Raider, Lubbock PBS station KTTZ and through livestream. Join the conversation on social media using #TTUCOL. For parking and event information, visit the eventwebsite.
