Fans have mixed opinions on Kliff Kingsbury's future at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -

With the regular season over for Texas Tech Football, many question what is next for head coach, Kliff Kingsbury, even after Friday night's win against the Texas Longhorns.

Many defended the coach but some said they are ready for a change.

"I feel like he needs to be doing something better because of not being able to bowl eligible in a couple of years," Dalton Marsh said.

Others said he does not deserve all the backlash.

"It's a young team, you can't blame it all on the coach," Joe Smith said.

Joe Looney said it is not a smart decision to let him go, at least when it comes to "the bottom line."

"I think they should keep him as long as his contract says because I don't want to pay someone to not do work," Looney said.

However, those who want to do away with Kingsbury said bring in Mike Leach, who was fired in 2009.

"I think Leach should be back." Felix Hipolito said. "I think that was Tech's biggest mistake, was letting Leach go."

Regardless, fans are still optimistic about the future of the program.

"Tech fan, always a Tech fan, no matter whose coaching but yes we love Kingsbury," Marsh said.

According to our estimate from Kingsbury's contract, the University would be liable for $6.8 million if he is terminated after this season.
