Local law enforcement takes part in simulated training course

Police officers and sheriffs deputies took part in a simulated course in dangerous driving Tuesday.

It includes training in pedestrian crossings, intersection safety, chase protocols, and the pursuit of a shooter.

Sheriff Kelly Rowe says it helps not just train his deputies, but how to improve their driving techniques.

"What this does, as you can see, to be given that opportunity to be able to replay, see some things that we couldn't normally see in real time to be able to go back and critique and improve those things. as these guys are out particularly in the driving sense making their way to -- and from -- calls handling pursuits, and so on," Rowe said.

Rowe says the exercises promote life, safety, reducing the number of traffic incidents and saves taxpayer money.
