It's National Hunger and Homelessness week. Here's how to get involved

Posted: Updated:

As the temps drop heading toward winter, there's some that don't have the luxury of having a roof over their heads.

According to the latest Lubbock homeless count, more than 300 people are sleeping on the streets at any given night.

To help bring awareness to this problem, the South Plains Food Bank and the Homeless Consortium are teaming up to kick off the National Hunger and Homelessness week.

Chad Wheeler with the Homeless Consortium says he hopes this week helps people find new ways to help.

"There are many great organizations that help and provide real solutions to hunger and homelessness and we want to encourage people to make contact with those groups, find ways to get involved, give, and help be a part of the solution," he said.

Visit www.spconsortium.org and www.spfb.org for more information on how you can get involved with local agencies fighting hunger and homelessness.
