LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech Army and Air Force ROTC honored Suzie Caballero Turner, sister of Tech alumna and Purple Heart recipient Sgt. Virginia Caballero.

A wreath was placed in Caballero's honor, followed by a tradition retreat of the colors.

"It's definitely a good encouragement and it's good to show our cadets that they are appreciated for what they're doing," Cdt. Rachael Skornia, Army ROTC, said. "They are the one percent. They are important to us and they will continue to be."

Skornia says they coordinated with the Texas Tech Veterans Program to choose a veteran to honor.
