LUBBOCK, Texas -

COLD START: There was freezing fog this morning, as the temperature dropped down to the dew point. And it was a cold start, low of 28 at the Lubbock airport. Here are some colder readings from the area on the Texas Tech Mesonet:

Levelland 22
Anton 24
Dimmitt 24
Hart 24
Muleshoe 24
Olton 24
Sundown 24
Aiken 25
Texas Tech 25
Wolfforth 25
Floydada 26
Friona 26
Morton 26
Plains 26
Plainview 26
Reese Center 26

THIS AFTERNOON: It’s a nice, sunny fall day. Weak upper-level ridging is moving across the region, leading to this clear, quiet weather.

TONIGHT: Not quite as cold, a freeze is possible around Muleshoe and Friona. Here in Lubbock, low near 36, wind out of the south around 5mph. It will be humid again, fog is possible in the morning.

NEXT FEW DAYS: Some low clouds and fog in the morning and a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow afternoon should keep the temperature in the upper 50s to lower 60s. It is a tricky forecast. If it clears out by late morning we’ll probably reach the mid 60s.

It’ll be cold for the Friday night football games, kickoff low 50s, end of the game upper 40s. Partly cloudy, south wind 5-15mph.

Saturday will be warmer and breezy, mid 70s with a gusty SW wind. The next cold front will move through late Saturday night. It’s not a strong front, but will kick up the north wind for a while early Sunday morning. Sunday’s high in the 60s.

NEXT WEEK: It’ll get warm again both Tuesday and Thursday. There’s not a strong sign of rain any time soon.

7-day forecast

TEXAS TECH FORECAST: It'll be in the 50s outside Cowboys Stadium heading to the game Saturday, back into the mid 60s after the game. There's a chance for some rain in Arlington Sunday.

Have a great rest of your day. Whitney will have the next forecast update here early tomorrow.
