New drug tests melting fat

Posted:

Good news if you overindulge on unhealthy foods. A new drug may melt harmful fat away. Researchers think one dose of a new drug called Trodusquemine could reverse the effects of the build-up of fatty plaque in the arteries. The condition can cause a number of heart problems, including a stroke or heart attack.
The drug was initially developed to help treat cancer and diabetes. Researchers have found that mice given a single dose of the drug have less fatty plaque in their arteries. Next, researchers plan to conduct trials of the drug in humans.
