LPD's traffic regulators mount up in new Mustangs

Lubbock police debuts their new deterrent force. Three Ford Mustangs will now enforce traffic regulations.

Chief Greg Stevens says the unit's actually making a comeback after a staffing shortage a couple years ago. The sports cars are just the cherry on top.

"As far as an advantage, it's just going to be new to the public, so the public's not really going to be out there necessarily looking for these, where the Tahoe they're used to seeing that, so they know what to look for," LPD's Tino "Papa 50" Blanco said.

Stevens added: "While they're going to issue traffic tickets, they're going to issue traffic warnings, again, they're going to do that with the effort towards reducing accidents and reducing fatalities."

Chief Stevens says the Fords are also a good community engagement tool. He says they cost much less than a standard cruiser or Tahoe.
