Prevent salmonella this football season

Cooking more at home is healthy and financially smart, but there are some increased health risks with it, especially if you're cooking out for the big game.

The CDC recommends that you prevent food contamination by practicing the following:

Pay attention when you're setting out the salad bowl after handling raw hamburger meat or chicken

Wash your hands before handling any food and between handling different food items

Make sure you cook poultry, ground beef and eggs thoroughly

Never eat or drink anything containing raw eggs or unpasteurized dairy products

Anyone who has salmonella poisoning should not prepare food or drinks

Wash your hands after any contact with animals, especially reptiles

Salmonella poisoning can be deadly.
